Teaching & Mentorship

Teaching environmental science and mentoring undergraduates are some of my biggest passions.

I have extensive undergraduate mentorship experience and am an awarded mentor through UC Santa Barbara. In teaching, I have completed pedological trainings including the CITRAL Community of Practice Course Design for Equity and the Certificate in Inclusive Teaching (CIT) from UC Santa Barbara.

Please see below for more information on my teaching and mentorship experience.

Undergraduate Student Mentorship

I have guided more than 16 undergraduates in independent research projects, internship programs, and as hired research assistants to collaborate on my dissertation. Programs that I am involved in support first-generation scholars and first-generation immigrants to the United States, and I incorporate culturally responsive mentoring in my advising.

Facilitating undergraduate research and success is one of my highest priorities; I provide paid research opportunities, professional development opportunities (such as conference travel), and co-authorship opportunities to my undergraduate students.

In 2025 I was awarded the Fiona and Michael Goodchild Graduate Mentoring Award for my distinguished dedication to mentoring and advancing undergraduate research within the UCSB academic community.

Some of the programs I have been involved with include:

Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships (CSEP) Mentor Leadership Fellow

I served as the Mentor Leadership Fellow for all STEM undergraduate research programs at the UC Santa Barbara through CSEP, 2024-2025.

I facilitated large workshops for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty on mentorship best practices and developed of suite of practical resources for undergraduate mentorship.
